Oviedo, Florida has a population of 33,342 and is growing each year, which is right on track with the city’s motto, “Growing in the right direction.” The city is about sixteen square miles and is in Seminole County. The city received its name from Andrew Aulin, who was an early settler and shopowner. Andrew Aulin needed a conveniently located post office, so he did the paperwork and then named the post office after a city in Spain, which was Oviedo.

Visitors to Oviedo will need to go downtown, because some of the original buildings that were first built in the early 1900’s are still there today. One of the local attractions in Oviedo is The Oviedo Lights, which is a mural that was dedicated to Tijuana Flats. The Black Hammock Adventures and the Lukas Butterfly Encounter are two main places to visit in Oviedo. The Winter on the Avenue is an annual event that occurs the first Saturday of December. This is a street party that provides plenty of activities. The 26^th annual Holiday Tree Lighting occurs in Central Park and the children’s choir will also be performing. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in the park an hour later, then popcorn flicks that feature iconic Christmas movies will be played. The ice rink will open for all ice skaters. This is an excellent weekend to visit Oviedo as there is something fun and exciting to see and do for the entire family.
